What is the location like?

We are located in the center of Nishimino, the western part of Gifu Prefecture, with key east-west transportation, history and culture.

What is Mirait Japanese Academy like?

Mirait Japanese Academy is a Japanese educational institution licensed by the Ministry of Justice.
You can enter our school after performing various procedures including application of resident status. For our school features, see <School features>.

What is the difference between Mirait Japanese Academy and other Japanese language schools (although your school features active support in entering the nursing care/rehabilitation industry)?

Our affiliated company runs a nursing care facility.
We provide OJT and a part-time job in the site for students who are interested in the nursing care/rehabilitation industry to support mastering technical Japanese.
For those who wish to enter the related educational institution, we also have intensive lectures of needed technical terms and nursing care/medical knowledge that allow them to smoothly participate in classes after admission.
Students who plan to apply to a university can take a regular curriculum of examination preparation including the JLPT for for studying abroad.

Which levels do you have in class?

We offer several classes following your ability and purpose, the beginner (first half), intermediate (N3 preparation) and advanced (N2/N1/academic or job preparation) levels.

Can I skip a grade? (graduation in 1 year)

Yes, if the capacity is available and you pass the transfer test. Consult us at the time of application.

How many students are there in class?

Maximum 20 students. Some classes have smaller.

Where are students come from?

We are mainly recruiting students from Asia but also various countries.

Is the teacher the Japanese?

Qualified Japanese teachers only have Japanese language classes. Lifestyle guidance and special classes may be provided by teachers from other countries.

Do you explain all in Japanese?

In general, we do not explain in English, but please be assured that experienced teachers will teach you using picture cards and gestures. A beginner can receive a guidebook translated into your native language.

Which textbooks do I use?

All beginners use the second edition of Japanese. The texbooks for the N3 to N1 exams and studying abroad will be used from the intermediate level,.

Do you offer other classes than Japanese?Is it free?

We offer preparation courses for studying abroad (mathematics, physics, biology, chemistry, and comprehensive subjects) and English courses according to the number of applicants with texbooks and tutoring. Besides, a homeroom teacher mainly offers preparation of interview and study plan reporting.

How long will I study every day?

45 minutes x 4 classes in Japanese class. In addition, the above subjects may be provided.

Can I learn Japanese culture?

We hold monthly events that allow students to join free of charge. The information is updated on Facebook as needed.

How long do I have summer vacation?
-
About 3 weeks in August. In addition, you will have 1 to 2-week holidays in each vacation for spring, autumn, and winter.
Also, we are closed in national holidays (about 16 days yearly). No holidays on Christmas, Easter or Lunar New Year.

Can I enter university/college?

Your homeroom teacher mainly provides information and preparation to enter university/college. Graduate schools and technical schools are also possible.

Can you introduce jobs?

Your homeroom teacher mainly provides information and preparation for job hunting. However, note that some occupations do not offer visas in Japan. The condition depends on educational background and Japanese language ability.

How much is dormitory fee?
-
The dormitory fee costs 100,000 yen, and the monthly rent is 20,000 yen to 25,000 yen depending on the room type (single to triple). Utilities are actual expenses following the usage.
After moving in, you shall pay common charge of 1,000 yen for waste disposal and cleaning in common areas.

How much do I need to graduate from your school?

A total of about 3.3 million yen for 2-year course and about 2.5 million yen for 1.5-year course, including tuition and living expenses.※Living expenses are calculated based on the national average.
A part-time job can cover about half of the required costs.

Do you provide a short-term course?

No, we do not provide a short-term course currently. The inforamtion will be updated as needed.

Is there an age limit for application?
-
In general, anyone can apply to our school if they have education equivalent to high school education in Japan (completed a 12-year course) within 5 years of their last education.
However, we may decline your admission if more than 5 years have passed since the last education or due to work history.

Will I take an entrance exam?

You will take Japanese writing test, interview, and document screening.

How long should I study Japanese before admission?

Beginner (first half) level (JLPT N5) for applicants of April admission
Beginner (second half) level (JLPT N4) for applicants of October admission Use the above as a guide.

When is the application deadline for each semester?

・ There are 2 admission periods yearly (April and October).
・ If you need to apply for a student visa, contact us in advance as the deadline is set following each admission period.

Do you pick up at the airport in Japan?
-
We only pick up students who will live in the dormitory and arrive at the fixed airport at the fixed time.
You shall pay transportation fee from the airport to the dormitory (or the school).

How much is the cost of living in Japan?

About 55,000 yen to 130,000 yen monthly including the rent, food, and utilities.

We lease private dormitories (apartments).

How much is the monthly cost of living?

You may need more than 60,000 yen except for tution (national average cost is about about 80,000 yen).
When coming to Japan, prepare at least 200,000 yen for your immediate living cost.

Is there a store near the dormitory and school?
-
Aqua Walk, a large shopping cente, is near the school, where you can get everything such as food, sundries, medicines, and clothing.
A discount store is also around there, where you can buy reasonable ingredients.

I entered your school as an international student. Can I start a part-time job right now?
-
When coming to Japan, apply for permission of a part-time job. Then, it will be accepted and listed on your residence card. You can work part-time for 28 hours weekly during a study period. During summer vacation and other holidays, maximum 40 hours weekly is allowed.
We consider you need 3 months after admission to get used to living in Japan and studying Japanese. You can work part-time 3 months after admission.

How much can I earn with a part-time job?

The hourly wage for part-time workers near the school ranges from 851 yen to about 1,000 yen. The monthly wage is about 80,000 yen to 100,000 yen (excluding long holidays).
In general, we allow a part-time job at the level in which it never disturbs study.
